Garda Vetting

Our Policy Statement

As part of our service in supporting and promoting volunteering, Cork Volunteer Centre (CVC) will act as an authorised signatory for Garda vetting for organisations within Cork County who do not have access to an authorised signatory within their own organisation.

Volunteer Centre and Organisational Agreement

Cork Volunteer Centre will provide a service to voluntary organisations to acquire Garda Vetting for their volunteers. This service will only be provided to voluntary organisations and is not available to individuals to acquire their own vetting.

Cork Volunteer Centre will only provide this service to organisations who do not have access to an authorised signatory through their own organisation. There must be one named person within the voluntary organisation to whom we can pass on relevant information regarding potential volunteers. This person must be available to meet with potential volunteers along with us should any issues arise with the volunteers vetting form.

Cork Volunteer Centre will provide ‘volunteer involving organisations’ with a Garda Vetting pack.  Garda vetting forms (included in the pack) should be gathered by the named person within the non-profit organisation and returned to the Authorised Signatory within Cork Volunteer Centre in an envelope marked ‘Private & Confidential’  Cork Volunteer Centre charge €5.00 to sign each Garda Vetting form. The forms are then sent by Cork Volunteer Centre to the Garda Vetting Unit.

Although Cork Volunteer Centre will hold onto the file with volunteers vetting details in a confidential manner, it will always remain the responsibility of the local organisation to decide whether a volunteer is suitable to volunteer with their organisation.

Organisations must have a confidentiality policy in place internally to ensure that all information gathered in the vetting process is used in a correct and appropriate manner.
Cork Volunteer Centre will reserve the right to discontinue this service for any organisation where we feel the organisation deems not to have abided by agreed good practice procedures including data protection legislation.
